The Goodees: What Is Memorial Day?

Posted on: May 28, 2013

T.S. : Hey guys! Yesterday we celebrated Memorial Day? Why do we celebrate Memorial Day?

scan002Alex: I don’t know. To help keep people alive?

T.S.: That’s close, Alex.

goodee pics 004Pepe: Umm….. Fart juice?

T.S.: Not exactly, PePe.

goodee pics 005Stuie: I know. So there will be no school for kids and work for parents?

T.S.: Yes, Stuie, that’s usually what happens on Memorial Day, but it is not the reason why we celebrate the holiday.

goodee pics 011Wollie: To remember all the good soldiers that fought for the United States and to remember our presidents.

T.S.: Thank you, Wollie.  Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday that takes place every year on the final Monday of May. It is a day to remember the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.  Memorial Day also marks the start of the summer vacation.  On this day many people visit cemetaries and memorials to give respect to those who lost their lives in military service.  American flags are usually placed on the graves of these men and women that have died serving our country. As a matter of fact, below are drawings of the American flag in observance of Memorial Day by some of our friends!
